A lot of people have minor cosmetic dental problems that affect the quality of their smile. The good news is, many of these issues can be resolved with a dental crown. It’s a tooth-shaped cover that you place over your tooth and is secured with dental cement.
Do You Need Crowns?
A crown is used to cap a damaged tooth, to improve its appearance, alignment, color or shape. It not only improves the appearance of the tooth but also make it stronger. The materials used for making dental crowns include porcelain, gold, ceramic and metal alloys.
You’ll need a crown if you have:
- A weak tooth due to a fracture
- Fractured tooth that needs to be restored
- Discolored tooth or teeth
- Underwent root canal treatment
- A dental bridge
- Dental implant
- A large filling and not enough tooth structure to support it
Dental Crown Procedure
Our office uses the latest digital impression system which we will need during the procedure to fabricate your custom crown. We often use porcelain crowns because they look just like your natural teeth and they’re also quite durable.
While your crown is being prepared in a laboratory, you will be given a temporary crown. Once your crown is ready, you’ll need to come back to our office so our dentist can fit your crown, cement it and polish it.
